FIRE CHIEFS 40 fiOWt.- -NJaL'F` PRESS RELEASE March 23, 2022 Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs/Waldorf University award scholarship 2022 Scholarship Awarded to Lieutenant Jesse Coulson, Dubuque Fire Department The Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs announced today that the 2022 Waldorf University/Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs Lt. Eric Hosette Memorial Scholarship was being awarded to Lieutenant Jesse Coulson of the Dubuque Fire Department. Lt. Coulson was chosen from applicants from across the state in winning this year's scholarship. According to scholarship panelist Fire Chief Jarrod Wellik from Newton, the competition produced excellent applicants. "The first round of reviews reduced the field to five finalists. Any of those finalist would have been an excellent choice for the scholarship and the competition was extremely close again this year." stated Chief Wellik. John Kramer, Chief of the Iowa Fire Service Training Bureau and scholarship panelist added "The competition was very close again this year and choosing the winner was extremely difficult. All of the finalist should be very proud of their efforts." The scholarship was renamed in honor of Clinton Firefighter, Lt. Eric Hosette who was killed in the line of duty in January 5, 2019 during a fire in a grain bin. Lt. Hosette was also the Chief in the Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte, Iowa. Waldorf University and the Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs renamed the scholarship to honor Lt. Hosette who was also a Waldorf University graduate. The scholarship is presented during the spring conference of Iowa Association of Professional Fire Chiefs. This year's conference will be April 5, 2022 and will be held at the Fire Service Training Bureau within Camp Dodge, Johnston, Iowa. The scholarship provides funding for the on-line program at Waldorf University and is intended to promote higher education for Iowa's fire service members. The scholarship provides 60 credit hours or 24 months of classes, whichever comes first. The potential value of the scholarship is valued at more than $17,500. The scholarship is awarded annually and this is the eleventh scholarship to be awarded.
