SUBJECT: New Gillig and Retiring International Transit Buses display for City Council
Meeting on May 16, 2022
DATE: May 3, 2022
The Jule received five (5) new 29-foot Heavy Duty Gillig buses in April of 2022. These
buses replaced four (4) aging and high mileage 2011 Medium Duty buses and one (1)
2002 Heavy Duty Gillig bus. These buses are used on our fixed route service. Three (3)
buses were purchased with a Bus and Bus Facilities Grant awarded by the Federal
Transit Administration (FTA). The total price of the three (3) buses was $1,250,121. The
cost was split 85% federal grant and 15% local match, making the federal amount paid
$1,062,603 and $187,518 paid with City funds. Two (2) buses were purchased with a
Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Grant awarded by the Federal
Transit Administration (FTA). The total price of the two (2) buses was $831,790. The
cost was split 80% federal grant and 20% local match, making the federal amount paid
$665,432 and $166,358 paid with City funds.
With the resumption of in person City Council meetings, we would like to bring two of
the new buses and two retiring buses to display in front of the Historic Federal Building
at 5:00 PM on May 16, 2022, to allow Council Members and Citizens an opportunity to
explore the new and old buses.
