RE: Destination Iowa Economically Significant Development City of Dyersville's Application
Dear Selection Committee:
City of Dubuque would like to extend support for the Big League Ballpark at the Field of
Dreams project. As seen with the August 2021 Major League Baseball game held at the Field of
Dreams, baseball fans from all over the world came to the area for a one -of -a -kind big league
baseball experience. A record breaking number of people also watched the extended FOX
network broadcast and represented our area of the great State of Iowa in the most positive way.
Since the release of the film in 1989 over 4,000,000 visitors have ascended to Eastern Iowa to
experience the magic of the Field of Dreams. Interest and visitors are at an all-time high since
the MLB game and with the announcement of the new ownership group's commitment to create
additional amenities, hotel and youth tournament complex.
The stadium development will provide a world -class sports facility in the State of Iowa, allowing
for permanent seating, concessions, restrooms and national broadcasting infrastructure for
large events. The new stadium will draw nearly 70 major events to the area annually, including
baseball and softball games and tournaments along with concerts and festivals. The stadium
and planned expansions at the Field of Dreams will have a huge economic impact annually of
$32.08 million in direct spending and supports 250.5 jobs throughout the region.
Sincerely,
Mic ael C. Van Milligen
City Manager
