2001 Curb Ramp Installation - CDBG
Sealed bids were received for the construction of the 2001 Curb Ramp Installation -
CDBG. Public Works Director Mike Koch recommends the award of the contract to the
Iow bidder, Perry Construction of Dubuque, Iowa, in the amount of $31,026.00.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolution provides for the award of the construction of the 2001
Curb Ramp Installation - CDBG.
DISCUSSION
The proposed project provides for the installation of 29 curb ramps on Crissy,
Theda, Marywood, Keymeer and Scenic View. This project is in response to a
directive of the Americans with Disabilities Act which requires curb ramps to be
installed at all intersections of the City.
Sealed bids were received for the project on May 3, 2001. The results of the
bidding process are as follows:

$41,825.00
The Iow bid submitted by Perry Construction of Dubuque, Iowa is 11.4% under
the engineer's estimate. The completion date for this project is August 1, 2001.
RECOMMENDATION
I would recommend that the City Council award the contract to Perry
Construction of Dubuque Iowa, in the amount of $31,026.00.
BUDGET IMPACT
The estimate for the project is as follows:

The project will be funded through the balance of $55,597.59 from the

ACTION REQUESTED
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolution awarding the
construction contract for the 2001 Curb Ramp Installation - CDBG to Perry
Construction.

RESOLUTION NO. 225-01
RESOLUTION ADOPTING PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
Whereas, on the 11th day of April, 2001, plans, specifications, form of contract and
estimated cost were filed with the City Clerk of Dubuque, Iowa for the 2001 Curb Ramp
Installation - CDBG Project.
Whereas, notice of hearing on plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated
cost was published as required by law.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:
That the said plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost are hereby
approved as the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost for said
improvements for said project.
Passed, adopted and approved this 21st day of May, 2001.

RESOLUTION NO. 226-01
AWARDING CONTRACT
Whereas, sealed proposals have been submitted by contractors for the
2001 Curb Ramp Installation - CDBG Project pursuant to Resolution No.
and notice to bidders published in a newspaper published in the City of Dubuque,
Iowa on the 20th day of April, 2001.
Whereas, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 3rd day of
May, 2001, and it has been determined that the bid of Perry Construction of
Dubuque, Iowa, in the amount of $31,026.00 was the lowest bid for the
furnishings of all labor and materials and performing the work as provided for in
the plans and specifications.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
That the contract for the above improvement be awarded to Perry
Construction and the Manager be and is hereby directed to execute a contract on
behalf of the City of Dubuque for the complete performance of the work.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
That upon the signing of said contract and the approval of the contractor's
bond, the City Treasurer is authorized and instructed to return the bid deposits of
the unsuccessful bidders.
