The Task Force presented its initial set of recommendations to the City Council in
February. The following recommendations relate to the activities of the Housing and
Community Development Department. An up -date on implementation actions to -date is
listed with each recommendation.
1. Reduce the time between rental inspections for problem properties.
Status: Legal staff is researching the efforts of other municipalities is use of this
approach. We intend to develop an 'habitual violator' ordinance for Council
consideration, which would qualify designated properties for more frequent
inspections
2. Do not allow property owners to receive city, state or federal funding unless their
properties are in compliance or the owner is actively working toward compliance.
Status: This is a policy decision for consideration by the Housing Commission.
We intend to bring this for action at the August Commission meeting.
3. Reduce the time allotted for correcting property violations from the current two
years.
Status: In April, amendments to the Housing Code were approved by the City
Council, to reduce time allowed by the housing inspector and the Housing Code
Appeals Board to no more than nine months.
