The contribution of the Water Pollution Control Department to the efforts of the Safe
Community Task Force will be small based on the very nature of our work. However,
there are areas where our staff can be involved.
1. Management of Physical Environment — The WPCP manages 14 pumping
stations located throughout the city. Each in a small way contributes to the
overall look and feel of the neighborhood it is in. The exterior of all pumping
stations will be reviewed to determine how the station fits in with the
neighborhood.
2. Housing Code Enforcement, Number 11 — In the process of operating and
maintaining the pumping stations WPCP staff visits several neighborhoods each
week. Staff will be encouraged to identify and report possible problems with
code enforcement. I would suggest the same minimal training for staff not
trained in this area to help them identify problems.
3. Neighborhood Engagement and Social Capital, Number 4 — WPCP staff has
been involved and will continue to contribute to cultural competency training.
