Minutes Park & Rec 4 10 01PRESENT: ABSENT: PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING Tuesday, April 10, 2001 4:30 p.m., in the Bunker Hill Golf Course Snack Bar Tom Blocklinger, Klm Daykin, Chuck Duggan, Paul Hoffmann, Karen Lyness and Tom Schrobilgen Mark Sullivan Staff present: Gil Spence, John Hail, Pat Prevenas and Eileen Trimble MINUTES APPROVED; VOTE It was moved by Lyness, seconded by Hoffmann, to approve the minutes of the March 13, 2001, meeting. The motion passed unanimously. UPDATE ON BUNKER HILL SNACK BAR RENOVATION: UPDATE ON C.I.P. PROJECTS: Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence updated commissioners on the status of the snack bar renovation: · progress has been made since last month; · mudders should be done Thursday; · painting should be done on Friday; · the flooring people are scheduled to be here Monday; · the request for the beer and liquor license will be going to City Council on Monday so that when the snack bar is ready, we will be able to serve beer and liquor dght away; · framers are finishing outside but can't complete their job until the roofers are finished. We hope by the end of next week we can at least use the rest rooms and the snack bar room; golfers have been understanding. The porch will have green plastic tables and chairs, not picnic tables. We needed to have some kind of a figure in order to go after lost concession revenue, so using last year's figures, Pat found we are losing an average of about $2.79 per golfer in concession revenue Leisure Services Manager Gil Spence brought commissioners up to date on C.I.P. projects: · play equipment will be renovated and new rest rooms put in by horseshoe courts at Flora Park; · play equipment will be renovated at Murphy Park; · the two buildings at Comiskey Park are scheduled to be torn down and replaced with one; · Hillcrest Park is scheduled to be renovated; ° lights on ice rinks will be replaced; · piers at Bergfeld Recreation Area will be constructed this year; · hope to start planting roses on Highway 20 -- will take four days (part of Phase 1). PARK DIVISION REPORT: Park Division Manager John Hail informed commissioners · tree crew worked six hours of overtime Saturday after the wind storm; · had roof damage at Madison Park and fence damage at Valentine Park; · we lost a bunch of the fabric around fence by dog track; · Scouts picked up at Eagle Point Park Saturday; · Thursday staff will be taking pavilion out to Bergfeld Recreation Area for the family to put together; · will be doing Audubon School play equipment next week; · Clarke students will be cleaning at Allison-Henderson Park; · started putting the new cedar shingling on at the Bennett Pavilion. RECREATION DIVISION REPORT: Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas updated commissioners · Recreation Division W~nter Report was distributed to commissioners; may be found as part of original minutes. · after school sports numbers showed a decline in basketball, due in part to a couple schools not being available for our use; swim lesson numbers were down; therapeutic programs were doing well; adult athletics alumni basketball tournament was very successful, and the two-weekend format worked out very well; adult open gym numbers were down; Uptown open gym numbers were consistent with last year's; we are down 22 teams in softball (no modified) and down 23 teams in volleyball. · golf course opened April 3rd; latest opening since 1993 · brochures were distributed at City Expo -- mailed to public school families because the schools gave us labels; delivered to parochial schools for distribution. OTHER BUSINESS: · City Expo is at Five Flags Civic Center on April 17th.
