J.. A. . ..4,S r ;1 _.Y:_ .Y' . . • DEAR SUPPORTERS OF DRA Thank in you advance for taking a moment to review the DRA 2021 Annual Report. We hope this information, which includes an overview of our mission, vision and values, provides a clear picture of what we have accomplished recently and the benefit we provide to communities throughout the tri-state area. Given the pandemic and other related issues, the past couple of years have presented DRA - as well as Q Casino and Diamond Jo Casino - with some unprecedented challenges. However, we also opened some new chapters in the life of the organization during this same timeframe. This includes hiring a new leader in August 2021, renewing our partnership with Diamond Jo Casino and laying the groundwork for the redevelopment of Schmitt Island. Likewise, we recently completed a new rebranding effort, which can be seen in the design of the report you are now reading. We are proud to say we have successfully navigated the impacts of COVID, while also continuing DRA's legacy of giving back to organizations and communities in lowa, Wisconsin and Illinois. As proof of this, DRA awarded $409,918 to 72 organizations in 2020 in addition to $640,000 to the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque's Disaster Recovery Fund, and $1,006,461 to 93 organizations in 2021 - all of which this report reflects. All told, we have contributed more than $244 million to the City of Dubuque and awarded more than 5,000 grants to over 950 organizations since our founding in 1985. This has resulted in more than $1 billion in local economic impact - and this number will grow as DRA continues to provide gaming and entertainment opportunities for thousands of visitors each year. Giving back to Dubuque and other area communities is important to us and we take great pride in doing so. This is why we will continue to proactively contribute to, and partner with, other organizations, especially where we can get actively engaged and provide resources that can be a catalyst to enhance growth through capacity-building projects and initiatives. The future is bright for DRA and gaming in Dubuque; and, together, we can (and will) make an impact. #' ;\ 1, , : ; Kevin Lynch a t Alex Dixon , Wendy Runde . . The memorial included a " curved wall dedicated to the branches of service and the wars they served. In the center, a 6-ton granite globe, 5-feet in diameter sat among pavers and benches, each sold to raise money for the initial project. In 2021, a $3.2 million improvement project, funded entirely by the DRA, was completed. The project sought to honor all veterans by unifying and enhancing all existing nearby memorials, including the relocation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial from Miller ;i,, Riverview Park. The improvements also include a swirling concrete path that transforms into an elevated boardwalk extending from the memorial over the pond. A circular I landing is home to the centerpiece of the project titled Skyward. Skyward honors Chaplain Aloysius Schmitt, who made the ultimate sacrifice on December 7, 1941 during ` r the attack on Pearl Harbor. \ . ; ! , Chaplain Schmitt died on board the Oklahoma after helping 12 sailors escape through E% \ a or t ho le w hi le t he s hi was sin kin sacri ficin his own c hance to f lee in t he rocess. \ \ '' p P g, g p - \ ., , \ Etched inside Skyward is the poem Rain, by World War I officer Edward Thomas.
