WHEREAS, across Dubuque, clean and readily abundant forms of energy power more homes
and businesses than ever before; and
WHEREAS, clean energy is part of Iowa's energy future. It includes generation from
renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydro and geothermal sources, but it also
includes nuclear, natural gas, and carbon capture technologies as well as energy storage;
and
WHEREAS, the clean energy sector is a growing part of the economy and has been a key
driver of growth in Iowa in recent years, with over 28,000 Iowans currently employed in
the clean energy sector; and
WHEREAS, Iowa is the nation's largest fuel ethanol and biodiesel producer, accounting for
one-fourth of U.S. fuel ethanol production capacity and one -fifth of biodiesel
manufacturing capacity; and
WHEREAS, Dubuque prioritizes sustainability by addressing environmental and ecological
integrity, economic prosperity, and social and cultural vibrancy; and
WHEREAS, clean energy jobs cannot be outsourced due to the on -site nature of construction,
installation, and maintenance. These jobs are inherently local and contribute to the growth
of local economies.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND RESIDENTS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 26T" THROUGH 30TH 2022 AS
"CLEAN ENERGY WEEK"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 19th day of September 2022.
