The City of Dubuque, along with other units of government across the country, received notice in January to participate in BAS. City of Dubuque Planning Services staff reviewed the boundary the Census Bureau has for the city and found it to be accurate. The City of Dubuque, along with other units of government across the country, received notice in January to participate in BAS. :1-IT91 201 :19111 z I C, BAS is an opportunity for units of government to ensure that the Census Bureau has current and accurate legal boundary, name, and status information for their jurisdiction. The Census Bureau uses this boundary information for data collection, tabulation, and dissemination for the decennial census, American Community Survey (ACS), Population Estimates Program (PEP), and many other censuses and surveys. The federal government allocates more than $675 billion in federal funds annually for health, welfare, infrastructure, education, and other federal programs and services. Correct boundaries ensure governments receive funds appropriately and have the best data available for their decision -making processes. DISCUSSION City of Dubuque Planning Services staff reviewed the boundary the Census Bureau has for the city and found it to be accurate. No annexations were made in 2022, so no changes were necessary. REQUESTED ACTION No requested action at this time. Planning Services staff will submit a response indicating no change to the BAS before the March 1, 2023 deadline. This is an advisory memo to inform Council of this action and raise awareness of this annual process.
