Petition of Michael O'Meara asking
City Council to remit the taxes
against Lot 66. Union Add. and allow
the same to remain as a lein, claim-
ing he is unable to pay same. Pre-
sented and read. On motion of Ald.
Andresen the petition was referred to
the Committee of the Whole.
Petition of the City Fire Fighters
Union asking the City Council to
amend the rules of the fire department
in regard to the annual vacation of
the fire department so as to give the
firemen an annual vacation of fifteen
days with pay as has always been the
custom. Presented and raid. Ald.
Leist moved to grant the prayer of
the petition.
Ald. Andresen amended Ald. Leist's
motion to refer the petition to the
Committee of the Whole.
Ald. Leist moved to suspend the
rules for the purpose of allowing any
fireman presen to address the Council.

Communication of the Burdick En-
amel Sign Co., asking the City Coun-
cil to return their samples of signs,
posts and check submitted some time
ago. Presented and read. On motion
of Aid. Leist action was deferred on

Communication of Service Motor
Truck Co. of Wabash, Indiana, stating
they have established an Aviation
Transportation company for the pur-
pose of delivering parts to its various
truck . users throughout the United
States, and inquiring if Dubuque had
a landing field, and what the rules
and regulations are pertaining to land-
ing if Dubuque has such a field, and
if there is no such a field, what steps
have been _taken laying out one. • Pre-
sented- and read. On motion of Ald.
Frith the communication was referred
to the Mayor with power.
Petition of Howard W. Higley and
Henry Parker Higley asking the City
Council to have the City Treasurer in-
structed to remit taxes to the amount
of $12.38 each, claiming said taxes
were paid by the administrator of the
estate, and they are entitled to a sol-
dier's exemption. Presented and read.
On motion of Ald. McLaughlin the
petition was referred to the City At-
torney.
Petition of Albert J. Roberts asking
the City Council to allow him a sol-
dier's exemption of his 1918 taxes on

Notice of claim for damages of
Mike Spies in the sum of $5,000.00
for injuries sustained by falling from
his wagon which he claims was over-
turned by striking a rock which had
been left in the street near 181 West
Locust street. Presented and read.
On motion of Ald. Andresen the no-
tice was referred to the City Attorney.
Communication of Frank Beutin
proposing that if the City Council see
fit, he will unload his material on
North First street and fill said street
for 25c per yard, and if the City of
Dubuque sees fit to use said street
later on they are to reimburse him
at said rate. Presented and read. On
motion of Ald. Frith the communica-
tion was referred to the Committee
of the Whole to view the grounds,
and the City Engineer instructed to
cross section North First street and
see how much it will take to fill same.

asking the City Council for permis-
sion to install a gasoline filling pump

stating conditions pertaining to the
construction of said pavement, also
that the present price to any and all
contractors is $1.75 per square yard,

Iowa. This agreement applies to any
work awarded for "Bitulithic" pave-
ment until withdrawn by Warren

City Engineer Cullen presented pro-
file No. 974 showing the grade of Sev-

of Ald. McLaughlin the profile was
adopted, and the Ordinance Committee
instructed to draft an ordinance cov-
ering the same.
City ESngineer Cullen presented
profile No. 975 showing the grade of
Roseline street from the north prop-
erty line of Leibnitz street to the
south property line of Klingenberg
Terrace. On motion of Ald. Frith the
profile was adopted, and the Ordinance
Committee instructed to draft an ordi-
nence covering the same.
Maintenance bond of the lcwa Tele-
phone company in the sum of $5,000.00
for maintaining sidewalks which are
torn up and relaid and the streets and
alleys from which the paving has been
removed and replaced, in good con-
dition and repair for the period of
one year from the date upon which
such pavements and sidewalks were
relaid. Presented and read. On mo-
tion of Ald. Leist the bond was re-
ferred to the City Attorney.
Ald. Firth moved that a street light
be placed at the intersection of San-
ford avenue and Queen street Car-
ried.
Ald. Frith moved that the Sewer In-
spector be instructed to finish con-
structing the sewer that is to take
care care of the overflow of water at

Cox street between West Fourteenth
street and West Seventeenth street,
asking the City Council to change the
grade on Cox street so as to reduce
the grading, and construct a 26 foot
street with 5 fopt walks By raising
grade and grading the street 36 feet

tion of Ald. Frith the petition was re-
ferred to the Committee of the Whole
to view the grounds.
Petition of property owners subject
to special assessment for the im-
provement of Ida street, asking that
the part to be improved be narrowed
nine feet on each side, instead of be-

plated. They also agree to waive any

That whereas, Section 1370 Supple-
ment to the Code, 1913, relating to
equalization of taxes by township
trustees, was amended by an Act of
the 38th General Assembly of the
State of Iowa, providing that in town-
ships having a population of 20,000 or
more, and situated entirely within the
limits of a city under special charter,
and in cities under special - charter

the board of review, except that the
township trustees of said townships

cessors or assigns, the right to con-
struct, maintain and operate lines of
street railway, upon and along cer-
tain other streets in said city, and to
regulate the construction, maintain -
ance and operation of such street

of the City of Dubuque; -
Sec. 1. That an ordinance granting
to the Union Electric Company, a

hereby amended by repealing the first
paragraph of section 18 thereof and
substituting the following, so that the
first paragraph of section 18 shall
hereafter read as follows.
Section 18. The rate of fare to be
charged each adult passenger for a
continuous trip in one general direc-
tion within the city limits shall be
6 1 -4 cents, when said fare is paid
for by a ticket and which tickets
shall be sold by the company at the
rate of 4 for 25 cents, and the com-
pany shall keep such books contain-
ing such tickets for sale at its prin-
cipal office in the City of Dubuque and
also provide its conductors with these
books to be sold to passengers upon
the street cars; provided, however,
that when a ticket is not used by a
passenger the company shall be per-
mitted to charge for each adult cash
fare 7 cents. The fare for children
under twelve years of age shall be
three cents.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be
in force and affect after its passage
by the City Council and publication
in the official newspaper of the City
of Dubuque as provided by law.

having been passed by the City Coun-
cil of the City of Dubuque, March 6,
1902, be and the same is hereby
amended by repealing the first para-
graph of Section 18 thereof and sub-
stituting the following, so that the
first paragraph of Section 18 shall
hereafter read as follows:
"Section 18. The rate of fare to be
charged each adult passenger for a
continuous trip in one general direc-
tion within the city limits shall be
6 1 -4 cents, when said fair is paid for
by a ticket and which tickets shall be
sold by the company at the rate of 4
for 25 cents, and the company shall
keep such books containing such tick-
ets for saie at its principal office in
the City of Dubuque and also provide
its conductors with these books to be
sold to passengers upon the street
cars; provided, however, that when a
ticket is not used by a passenger the
company shall be permitted to charge
for each adult cash fare 7 cents. The
fare for children under twelve years
of age shall be three ^.eats.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be
in force and effect after its passage by
the City Council and publication in the
official newspaper of the City of Du-
buque as provided by law.
