PITDIMCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Clarke University's Women's Basketball won the 2023 National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Championship; and
WHEREAS, that championship earned Clarke University and the Dubuque community their first
college basketball championship ever; and
WHEREAS, the Championship was won at the conclusion of a six -game run within a 64-team field
where the Pride defeated the defending NAIA Champions by a final score of 63-52 on
March 18th; and
WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the championship, Clarke finished with a program -best 33-4 record,
leading to Head Coach Courtney Boyd being named the NAIA National Coach of the
Year.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND RESIDENTS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
RECOGNIZE THE CLARKE UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM AS THE
"2023 NAIA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 3rd day of April 2023.
