INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memo is to make a budget amendment for Sustainability Improvement
Package for Energy Benchmarking.
BACKGROUND
In March 2023, City Council approved the City's FY24 budget. Included in the budget was an
improvement package for $25,000 related to energy benchmarking research and
implementation.
Simultaneously, the Office of Sustainability applied to participate in the Iowa Initiative for
Sustainable Communities (IISC), a program of the University of Iowa. The cost to participate is
$50,000 which was not requested in the FY24 budget.
DISCUSSION
As the budget process was taking place, the Office of Sustainability joined a Resiliency Cohort
that helped with research related to Energy Benchmarking and after seeing the report,
determined we do not have sufficient funding nor staff capacity to start this work. It was
requested during a discussion between the Sustainable Community Coordinator and the City
Manager on 4/20/23 to repurpose this funding to seed the IISC funding requirement.
BUDGETIMPACT
There is no budget impact. This is the same quantity of money being repurposed.
REQUESTED ACTION
Per our discussion on 4/20/2023 you approved this budget amendment.
