Age • The three age groups with the most speeding passenger vehicle drivers in fatal crashes are under 20, 20- to 24-year-olds, and 25- to 29-year-olds. • These three groups include 3,167 drivers, representing 50% of all speeding passenger vehicle drivers in fatal crashes. US Department of Transportation Safe System Approach T • U.S. DOT adopts a Safe System Approach as the guiding paradigm to address roadway safety. Safer Safer • The Safe System Approach has been embraced by the People Vehicles transportation community as an effective way to address and SAFE mitigate the risks inherent in our enormous and complex A SYSTEM transportation system. Past -Crash Care r Safer Roads • •I• • The Effects of Speed on Roadway Fatalities Safer People Speeding increases both the frequency and severity of crashes, yet it is both persistent and largely accepted as the Safer Roads norm amongst the traveling public.2 U nsafe speeds are a well -documented and understood factor in death and Safer Vehicles injury, especially among people outside of a vehicle. Managing speeds and addressing issues of speeding will improve safety. Safer Speeds Impact Speed and a Pedestrian's Risk of Death Post -Crash Care Speeding is a significant contributor to deaths on our roadways and is particularly hazardous to pedestrians.
