Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting May 25, 2023
Present: Pam Mullin, President; Andy Bland, Secretary; and Trustees, Robert
Armstrong, Alanda Gregory, Victor Lieberman, Christy Monk
• The Board approved library expenditures
• The library continues to see increases in materials use, visitors, programming
attendance, and computer and Wi-Fi usage.
• The library is ready for the summer reading program to kick off in June. The
theme for youth/teens is Find Your Voice. The adult theme is a `bookopoly' game
board.
• The Dubuque County Reads program met all goals from the collection of County
Librarians that planned the event. Meetings for a 2024 All -County read will begin
this summer, with more County libraries showing interest in participating.
• Art @ your Library for June -July will be featuring local artists. Brad Fautsch, an
art educator whose works with mixed media includes sculptures and ink drawings.
Tom Kedzie uses his cell phone to capture images and prints onto stretched
canvas.
• Author Varian Johnson performed at Washington and Jefferson Middle Schools,
as well as an evening performance at the Library on April 25.
• Library staff assisted students at the STEM fair at Clarke University. Over 500
visitors stopped by to chat with the Library, and over 300 youth were able to
create electric circuit bookmarks.
• The first year of the Bookworm Builders program, a youth literacy program
aimed at preschools with typically underserved children was deemed a success.
Plans to continue the program for next school year are underway.
