Ald. Callahan moved that all bills
now in the committee of the whole
against the athletic field be taken
from the committee of the whole and
acted on in the council meeting.

Ald. Callahan moved that warrants
be ordered drawn on the city treas-
urer for all bills against the athletic
field. Carried.
Ald. Frith moved that a warrant in
the sum of $288.00 be ordered drawn
on the city treasurer in favor of John
Heim for balance due for work on
Diagonal street and bee branch sew-
er. Carried.
Petition of G. L. Kormann asking
the city council to have Rosaline ave-
nue from Leibnitz street to Klingen-
berg Terrace improved presented and
read. On motion of Ald. Frith the
petition was referred to the commit-
tee of the whole to view the grounds.
Petition of E. R. Barr objecting
against the proposed expenditure of
$700.00 for improvement of Cora and
Exchange streets presented and
read. On motion of Ald. Plamondon
the petition was received and filed.
Petition of Geo. Wimmer asking
the city council to reduce the valua-
tion on his house on lot 3 of Sub. 4,
G. D. Woods Add., presented and
-ead. On motion of Ald. Callahan
the petition was referred to the com-
mittee of the whole to view the
grounds.
Petition of Mrs. Carolina Minges
asking the city council to accept the
sum of $150.00 in full payment of
the balance due on the special as-
sessment against lots 9, 10 and 11
Rogers Sub., for the improvement of
Hill street presented and read. On
motion of Ald. Frith the petition was
referred to the committee of the
whole.
Petition of J. G. Becker, et al, ask-
ing the city council to install an
electric light on Dorgan Place pre-
sented and read. On motion of Ald.
Leist the petition was referred to the
committee of the whole to view the
grounds.
Petition of Miss Keller, et al. ask-
ing the city council to stop Mr. Welsh
and Co. from blasting in the quarry
near Alta Vista street and Union
avenue presented and read. On mo-
tion of Ald. Strobel the petition was
referred to the committee of the
whole to view the grounds.,
Petition of the members of the
sewer department asking the city
council for an increase of 50 cents
per day in wages presented and read.
On motion of Ald. Frith the petition
was referred to the committee of the

Communication of H. F. McCabe,
attorney for J. W. Twaites, asking
the city council to view the grounds
on Lot 3 of Sub. Mineral No. 122, Lot
4 of Sub. Mineral Lot 121 and Lot 5
of Sub. Mineral Lot 121 and ascertain
if the property is exempt from taxa-
tion ,as it is used for agricultural pur-
poses only and if found as stated to
instruct the city treasurer to refund
to J. W. Twaites the taxes paid by
him for 'the year 1916 presented and
read. On motion of Ald. Wallis the
communication was referred to the
committee of the whole to view the
grounds and the city attorney to be
present.
Petition of E. F. Milligan asking
the city council to instruct the city
treasurer to cancel the assessment of
$2.00 levied against hint in the year
1914 for cutting weeds presented and
read. On motion of Ald. Strobel the
petition was referred to the commit-
tee of the whole.
Petition of W. M. Kretschmer, et
al, asking the city council to install
an electric street light on Summit at
the intersection of the alley first
south of West Fifth street presented
and read. On motion of Ald. Leist

of the City of Dubuque:
Gentlemen: The case of John
Schwaegler vs. the City of Dubuque
was reached for trial at the present
term of the District Court. The plain-
tiff sustained several severe injuries
as a result of a fall upon an icy side-
walk in front of the garage located
on Sixth and Iowa streets, on Feb.
5th, 1915. • He brought his action to
recover damages for said injuries in
the sum of Three Thousand ($3,000.-
00) Dollars. The case was one in
which there appeared to be consid-
able merit, and it was, therefore,
deemed advisable to adjust a settle-
ment, if possible. After Some discus-
sion with the attorneys for the plain-
tiff, a settlement was made for the
sum of One Hundred ($100.00) Dol-
lars, the plaintiff in the case to pay
the costs of court which had accrued.
This settlement being deemed satis-
factory by the undersigned, we rec-
ommend that the same be approved
by your Honorable Body and that a
warrant be drawn in favor of Frant-
zen & Bonson, attorneys for the plain-
tiff, to cover the same and the Treas-
urer be instructed accordingly.

Mayor Saul stated that this meet-
ing is called for the purpose of acting
on the ,petition of the Blake Milling
Company and any other business that
might properly come before a regular
meeting of the City Council.
Petition of the Blake Milling Com-
pany, relative to erecting a flour mill
in the City of Dubuque, and asking
the City Council to adopt an ordinance
providing that the personal property
of the said Blake Milling Company
shall not be assessed at mere than
$500.00 for the years 19i8 to 1922, in-
clusive, and that Lots Numbers 271 to
282, both inclusive, and improvements
thereon, in Glendale Addition, No. 3,
in the City of Dubuque, provided that
the said Company shall erect its plant
thereon during the year 1917, shall be
assessed at the same amount as they
are at present for the said years 1918
to 1922, inclusive, presented and read.

choice Upland Hay and choice Timo-
thy Hay and No. 1 White Oats, for
the 'term of one year from April. 1917.
'Such oat's and hay to be delivered
in 'such quantities and such places as
'ihaY be 'ordered 'by 'the City from time
to time. All hay and oats to be Weigh-
ed on the 'City Scales and delivered
at the 'eicpense of the contractor. The
