Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Intent to apply for 2024 Track 2 Development Base Grant DATE: September 13, 2023 Public Health Director Mary Rose Corrigan is recommending City Council approve the request to submit an application for the 2024 Track 2 Development Base Grant with an anticipated amount of$11,013.00 with no match required. The National Environmental Health Administration's Food Drug Administration Development Base Retail Flexible Model Grant provides for staff training on how to conduct and audit the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards (VNRFPS) as required by the Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensure (DIAL)'s contract. Funds would allow Environmental Sanitarian Mark Murphy and one additional Environmental Sanitarian to attend training and earn food safety continuing education credits. DISCUSSION The National Environmental Health Administration's Food Drug Administration Development Base Retail Flexible Model Grant provides for staff training on how to conduct and audit the Voluntary National Retail Food Regulatory Program Standards (VNRFPS) as required by the Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensure (DIAL)'s contract. Funds would allow Environmental Sanitarian Mark Murphy and one additional Environmental Sanitarian to attend training and earn food safety continuing education credits. Reimbursement for up to $5000 for continued work on three unfinished Retail Food Protection Standards is also an eligible grant expense. These Standards are considered best practices for food safety inspection programs. Anticipated Amount: $11,013.00 Match Required: No Match Funding Source: No match required. Match Amount: N.A. Application Due Date: 10/11/2023 Anticipated Notification Date: 12/31/2023 Anticipated Receipt of money: 3/31/2025 Departments Involved: Health Services GRANT OBJECTIVE Work towards completion of the National Voluntary Retail Standards, which are not voluntary in lowa and are required by our contract with lowa DIAL; provide for two Environmental Sanitarians to take continuing education classes, and one Environmental Sanitarian/Emergency Preparedness Planner to attend a national education conference in Pittsburgh, PA. These grant funds can be applied for in future rounds for additional funding.
