SUGGESTED Suggested Disposition: Receive and File DISPOSITION: ATTACHMENTS: Description Type Dubuque Audubon Society Petition Supporting Documentation October 3, 2023 Dear Mayor Ca�anaugh, Council Members and City of Dubuque staff inembers, As you know, the Dubuque Audubon Saciety has gathered signatures far a petition urging Dubuque to preser�e a portion of Technology Park for a grassland preser�e. While we understand that the city discussed our request during the annual meetings and our request did not make the tap 1Q priorities identified for 2024, we would like the request to be publicly recognized.Therefore, we wil! share this petition with you formally and ask for your receipt to be acknowledged at an upcorrting council meeting. I will be deli�ering this letker with a hard copy of the signatures recei�ed to date to Trish Gieasan a#City Hall this week. We would ask that a vote be taken to either proceed with the petitioned request or to decline it. A formal answer to the petition is warranted for public knowledge, considering how many people showed interest. If request is denied, we would a�prec�ate an on-record reasoning and any additional ir�formation regarding ways#he city will pursue ensuring grassland habitat can be preser�ed in our city limits. Here are a few details in suppart of the petifion and grassland preservation in the City of Dubuque: - 97 Sisters of Charity, BVM and their associates at Maunt Caramel signed - 52 5isters of St. Francis and their assaciates at Mt. St. Francis signed - 448 Carnmunity members signed 597 si natures! The total af 597 signatures {hard copy and electronic signatures attached) sends a strong signal of support to our community leaders a�aut the importance of this type of land preser�atian to our community members. We hope this is encouraging to you in your efforts to pro�ide best practices advice to city land management staff and to those people the city leases land ta. We hope it becomes influential in the consideration of i�uilding permits and land de�efopment agreements going farward. Once these "Best Practices" are adapted, we hape the city will extend the reach af its efforts by sharing those practices with other communities around us to encourage their adoption of similar pracfices.
