RE: Street Banners located in Historic Districts
Dear Mayor and City Council Members:
At the October 27, 2003 meeting, the Historic Preservation Commission discussed the
new street banners that the Chamber of Commerce has installed throughout the
downtown.
The Commission discussed that although the banners do not require a building permit,
they would like to have the opportunity to review them and provide a recommendation to
the City Council. They noted that the banners are similar to public works projects
located in the public right-of-way. They noted that for public works projects located in
historic districts, the Historic Preservation Commission serves as an advisory review
body to the City Council.
Recommendation
The Commission respectfully requests that in future they be allowed to serve as an
advisory design review body to the City Council on the design, size and composition of
street banners located in the historic districts.
Respectfully submitted,
Historic Preservation Commission
