than 250 summer and seasonal positions with the Recreation Division,
Parks Division, City pools, Bunker Hill Golf Course, Port of Dubuque Marina,
AmeriCorps, and Multicultural Family Center.
A seasonal job with the City can be a great fit for many people:
• For high school students age 15 and up or college students on summer
break, a seasonal job can provide on-the-job experience as well as the
opportunity to make money.
• If you have little to no job experience, a summer job can help boost
your resume for future employers.
• Seasonal jobs can also be a good way for retirees and other
professionals or former professionals to earn extra income.

Are you looking for something new to
encourage your child's learning?
The Leisure Services Smart Start program is for preschoolers
ages 3 - 5. We introduce curriculum such as math, reading,
and writing through art, music, and play. We also work on
letter/name recognition, socialization/interaction, listening,
and following instructions in a group environment.
This is a parent drop-off class on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Regular Yard Waste/Food
Scraps Collection Resumes
Regular yard waste and food scraps collection for
current subscribers starts Monday, April 1.
Customers have the following options for curbside
collection of yard waste and food scraps (these
items can be combined):
• City -issued 64-gallon Yard Waste Tipper Cart -
$10/month
• Annual Yard Waste Decal - $40.
• Single -use yellow stickers for cans, bags, or
bundles - $1.50 each (or sold on sheets of five
for $7.50) Sold at most discount and hardware
stores in Dubuque. A complete list of retailers is

Fiscal Year 2025 Budget Public Meetings
The City's annual budget public input meetings are additional
opportunities for residents and stakeholders to learn more about the
recommended budget and share their input.
The city council will set a maximum property tax rate before the recommended FY2025
Budget is presented by the city manager to the city council.

Tree Canopy Initiative
The City, in partnership with Dubuque Trees
Forever, was awarded a U.S. Forest Service
grant for $1.5 million to be used to plant
thousands of trees over the next five years.
Residents who have interest in the initiative,
including the opportunity to request a free
tree*, learn more details, or to volunteer, are
invited to fill out an interest form at www.

Discounted Utilities for
Income -Qualified Residents
The City offers income -qualified residential
customers a reduction in monthly fees for
all four City utilities (water, sanitary sewer,
refuse collection, and storm water) of up
to 50% of the base rate.
Customers must submit an application
for consideration and applications are
renewed on an annual basis.

Older Adults Home Modification Grant
The City of Dubuque is offering grants for low-income
Dubuque residents, age 62 and older, to modify their
homes so they can age at home safely!
^ Inspections, supplies, and modifications
® are all included in the grant. Examples include:
► Installing grab bars, lever style handles, and hand rails
► Repair flooring and transitions to remove trip hazards
► Moving switches and outlets
► Converting a bathtub to a step-in shower

City Life Allows Residents to Discover
Dubuque Like Never Before
Discover Dubuque like never before with this informational and
interactive look at your city government and community! City Life is the
City of Dubuque's fun, free, and interactive course on local government
that answers your questions on what it takes to keep our city running.
City Life participants have the
opportunity to learn more about City
operations and services that make
Dubuque a great place to live, work, and
play. Through presentations, tours, and
conversations with neighbors, you'll see
taxpayer investments at work and be able
to share your thoughts.
The City Life program consists of six in -person sessions on Thursday
evenings this spring (April 11,18, 25, and May 2, 9, and 16) from
6-9 p.m. at a variety of Dubuque locations. Dinner is provided and
accommodations may be made.
