to forward it to the members via email. I will also have paper copies with me as well. Again, I apologize
for the lateness of this.

Rockdale Flood Memorial
On the night of July 4-5, 1876, as the U.S. Centennial Celebrations across the country were
winding down, a storm reached the small town of Rockdale, Iowa. At first, it was just a light
rain but quickly the storm grew more intense until sometime around midnight the milldam
just upstream gave way. A wall of water said to have been 20 feet tall and 200 feet wide
slammed into the town. The town was nearly destroyed, and 39 men, women and children
were killed.
Let us never forget! Let us build a small memorial near the former town of Rockdale. Let us
remember this historic event and memorialize those lost. The sesquicentennial of this
tragic event is just two years away, let us dedicate this memorial on that 150th anniversary –
July 4, 2026.
