Public Works Director Mike Koch is recommending acceptance of the construction
contract for the Sheddan Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction Project as completed by
Tschiggfrie Excavating in the final contract amount of $116,689.71.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

Sheddan Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction
INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolutions provide for the acceptance of the construction contract for the
Sheridan Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction Project.
DISCUSSION
Work has been completed on the project by Tschiggfrie Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa, in
the final contract amount of $116,689.71.
RECOMMENDATION
I would recommend that the City Council accept the improvement and the final contract
price be established at $116,689.71.
BUDGET IMPACT
A summary of the budget costs is as follows:

The project will be funded through the 1% Local Option Sales Tax Fund from a Fiscal Year
1999 appropriation in the amount of $104,500. Due to the rising reinforced concrete pipe
(RCP) costs and the slight increase in the scope of the project, the project cost is higher
than the funds projected for the project. The remaining $34,972.38 will be funded using
the General Fund from a Fiscal Year 2000 appropriation in the amount of $92,507.00
originally intended for the guniting of storm sewers.
ACTION TO BE TAKEN
The City Council is requested to adopt the attached resolutions accepting the improvement
and establishing the final construction cost.

RESOLUTION NO. 233-01
ACCEPTING IMPROVEMENT
Whereas, the contract for the Sheridan Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction Project
has been completed and the City Manager has examined the work and filed his certificate
stating that the same has been completed according to the terms of the contract, plans and
specifications and recommends its acceptance.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the recommendation of the City Manager be approved and that said
improvement be and the same is hereby accepted.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Treasurer be and he is hereby directed
to pay to the contractor from the Fiscal Year 1999 1% Local Option Sales Tax Fund and
the Fiscal Year 2000 General Fund in amounts equal to the amount of this contract, less
any retained pementage provided for therein.

FINAL ESTIMATE
Whereas, the contract for the Sheridan Road Storm Sewer Reconstruction Project
has been completed and the City Engineer has submitted his final estimate showing the
cost thereof including the cost of estimates, notices and inspection and all miscellaneous
costs;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. That the cost of said improvement is hereby determined to be
$139,472.38 and the said amount shall be paid from the 1% Local Option Sales Tax Fund
and the General Fund.
