WHEREAS, for over 60 years, Mental Health America has brought together mental health providers,
consumers, family members, advocates and concerned citizens to serve as an effective
voice for mental health in this area; and
WHEREAS, mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, impacting individuals, families,
and communities across Dubuque County; and
WHEREAS, one in five American adults experiences a mental health condition each year and
everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health; and
WHEREAS, despite its prevalence, mental health remains shrouded in stigma, preventing many from
seeking help; and
WHEREAS, early intervention and access to quality care are crucial for managing mental health
conditions and improving quality of life; and
WHEREAS, May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Awareness Month, providing an
opportunity to raise awareness, combat stigma, and promote mental health resources.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND RESIDENTS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MAY 2024 AS
"MENTAL HEALTH MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND CALL UPON RESIDENTS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES,
PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INSTITUTIONS, BUSINESSES, AND SCHOOLS IN THE DUBUQUE AREA
TO RECOMMIT OUR COMMUNITY TO INCREASING AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF
MENTAL HEALTH, CHALLENGE STIGMAS SURROUNDING MENTAL HEALTH, SEEK HELP FOR
THEMSELVES, AND TO CREATE SUPPORTIE ENVIRONMENTS FOR OTHERS.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 6th day of May 2024.
