BRANCHING OUT DUBUQUE
Tree Canopy Initiative
The City, in partnership with Dubuque Trees Forever, was awarded a U.S. Forest
Service grant for $1.5 million to be used to plant thousands of trees over the next five
years. Properties located within specific areas of the city are eligible to receive one or
more free trees.
Residents who have interest in the initiative, including the opportunity to request a free
tree, are invited to fill out an interest form at www.cityofdubuque.org/branchingout
or call 563-690-6038. Also available online is an interactive map where residents can
enter their address to determine if their property is located in
one of the four tree planting eligibility areas. Aj o.,
The Branching Out Dubuque initiative will have several
volunteer opportunities available including helping with
tree transportation and tree planting. Those interested
in volunteering are also encouraged to fill out the online
interest form!

The new website features a clean
and modern design that improves
accessibility and readability on
all devices. Commonly requested
services are prominently displayed
on the homepage for easy access
along with recent City updates,
upcoming meetings and events, and
City Council contact information.

SAVE THE DATE
Opening Reception
Planned for Aug. 9
Eleven new sculptures have been
selected for the City's 18th annual
temporary public art exhibit, Art
on the River. The 2024-2025
theme, "Culture & Conversation," is
meant to engage the community
in conversations with each other
and the artists behind the works; to
encourage, challenge, and educate;
help overcome barriers; and foster
economic growth and community
prosperity.
A call for artists to submit pieces
that speak to the theme was
answered with 51 applications from
31 artists in 11 states and India.
An opening reception will be held
on Friday, Aug. 9, from 5 - 7 p.m. at
the Grand River Center, 500 Bell St.
The evening will commence with
live music, light hors d'oeuvres, and
a cash bar on the patio of the Grand
River Center. The reception is free to
attend, family -friendly, and open to
the public.

REMINDER:
USE OF FIREWORKS
Banned in City Limits
Dubuque bans the use of consumer
fireworks in the city. Dubuque residents
can buy and possess consumer fireworks,
but they cannot use them in the city.

The Housing and Community
Development Department provides
resources to homeowners, tenants, and
landlords to rehabilitate, weatherize, and
beautify their properties.
Homeowner Rehabilitation Program
This program provides a 0% interest,
low -payment loan of up to $25,000
to qualified applicants to complete
improvements to their home.
Healthy Homes Programs
Program participants may qualify for up
to $10,000 to create a healthier home
OR up to $30,000 for lead remediation
plus an additional $5,000 for other
household hazards.
Online Interest Form
Interested residents are invited to submit
an online interest form. The form is
utilized by City staff to find the program
that best suits your needs. Information,
including program details and contact
information, will be mailed to you! For

Youth Climate Action Micro9ran[s
CALL FORAPPLICATIONS
Microgrants of $1,000 - Kom are available for youth ages
15-24 who are interested in designing, producing, and 1�
overseeing urgent climate solutions in our city. Projects can vary in scope and
must align with Dubuque's 50% by 2030 Climate Action Plan. A short application
and budget will be reviewed upon submission. Grants will be awarded through the
summer until funds are exhausted. All projects must be completed by Fall 2024.

The City of Dubuque receives Community Development
Block Grant (CDBG) federal funds each year for housing and
community development projects. The Housing and Community
Development Department wants you to have a voice in how the
City invests this money. To provide your input,

�{ FIRE REMINDERS
Recreational and portable outdoor fireplace fires can
be enjoyed as long as a few basic rules are followed.
• Wind: Be a good neighbor and be aware of wind direction.
• Fuel and Wood: Fuel used must be strictly limited to
charcoal products or natural growing form wood, dried,
split, or sawn to lengths no greater than four feet.
• Smoke: Conditions should be such that smoke and gases
are allowed to rise up and away. If smoke, gases, or fire
become a public nuisance, the fire must be extinguished.
A fire department representative will respond to
complaints and make a determination as to whether the
fire or smoke is a nuisance.
• Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet
of a structure or combustible material and must be
constantly attended until the fire is extinguished.
• Portable outdoor fireplaces shall be used in accordance
with the manufacturer's instructions and shall not be
operated within 15 feet of a structure or combustible
material and must be constantly attended until the fire is
extinguished.

Enjoy one of Dubuque's most popular parks all season
long! Season passes to Eagle Point Park range from $ 5
to $15 for unlimited vehicle access into the park through
October. Passes are sold at the Eagle Point Park Toll
Booth or at the Leisure Services Department, located
at 1157 Central Ave. A valid driver's license and vehicle
registration must be present at the time of purchase.

Celebration

Multicultural Family Center
Join the Multicultural Family Center and community members
originally from India for this important day! This fun -filled
luncheon is free to attend and includes educational displays,
music, dancing, and Indian food. Registration not required.
