DUBUQUE HOTEL COMPANY,
By Geo. McLean, President
Ald. Saul moved that the prayer of
the petition be granted. Carried.
To the Honorable City Council of the
City of Dubuque, Iowa:
Gentlemen: The undersigned, Du.
buque Hotel Company, 'is desirous of
erecting a large hotel building, which
will occupy the site of the former
Hotel Julien at the northeast corner or
Main and Second Streets in the City
of Dubuque and some adjoining terri-
tory. The Hotel Julien was built over
the alley separating lot 6 from 196, the
structure over the alley being carried
•on an arch, and this was done under
an ordinance of the City Council of
this city passed August 7, 1873, which
gave authority to William W. Wood-
Special Session, Oct. 29, 1913 411
worth, his heirs and assigns, to con-
struct such arch for a distance of 60
feet north from the north line of Sec-
ond Street, the arch to be not less than
11 feet in height from the grade of
the alley to the under - side of the
crown of the arch.
In the building which this company
proposes to erect it is desired to have
said arch extend about 6 feet further
north than the old arch and we find
that it can t e constructed to give 'a
height of 11 feet, 6 inches from the
grade of the alley to the under side of
the crown of the arch, teing 6 inches
higher than that provided in the 'old
ordinance. This company has acquired
all of said land formerly held by 'said
Woodworth and his rights under said
ordinance, but inasmuch as it is 'de-
sired to carry the arch 6 feet further
north than was granted by the did
ordinance atove referred to, respect-
fully requests you to adopt a new
ordinance granting that right.
A form for such 'proposed ordinance
is herewith submitted and 'we re-
spectfully ask you to adopt said ordi•
nance.
It is 'desired, if passible, to proceed
at once with the erection of said build-
ing, and it would be
ed if this matter can be 'given p'•dmpt
attention. Plans of the building are
submitted with this petition.
