Carney, Trewin and Dr. McParland addressed the Council, asking to have Fenelon Place laid with asphalt and make street 26 feet wide from curb to curb. Mr. McMullen addressed the Council, asking to have the grade on Wooten Avenue raised two feet. City Recorder Shea presented and read the notice, certified to by the publishers, of the City Council's in- tention to improve Kaufman Avenue from Couler Avene to Cushing Place. On motion of Singrin, notice was received and filed. City Recorder Shea presented and read the notice, certified to by the publishers, of the City Council's in- tention to construct a sanitary sewer in Couler Avenue from the end of the present sewer at 25th Street, north- erly to 32nd Street. On motion of Ald. Frith, notice was received and filed. City Recorder Shea presented and read the notice, certified to by the publishers, of the City Council's in- tention to improve Grandview Ave- nue from the end of the present im- provement, which is about opposite the South line of Lot 2 of Mineral Lot 31, southerly to Southern Ave- nue. On motion of Ald. Saul, action was deferred. City Recorder Shea presented and read the notice, certified to by the publishers, of the City Council's in- tention to improve Wooten Avenue from South Hill Street to McClain Avenue; also the remonstrance of D. D. McMullen. On motion • of Ald. Saul, action was deferred, and prop- erty owners bring in waivers. Saul referred to the Commit- tee of the Whole. PETITION. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council of the City of Dubuque. Gentlemen: The undersigned hav- ing purchased the stock and good will generally the location, nature and ex- tent of the proposed improvement on Fenelon Place from the east line of Raymond Place to the east line of Burch Street, and the kind of ma- terial to be used, and an estimate of the entire cost thereof, and the amount and cost of such improve- ment, and the amount asessable upon any railway or street railway com- pany, the amount and cost thereof, to be paid by the city, if any, and the cost thereof and amount assess- able upon each lot or parcel of land adjacent to or abutting upon such im- provement per front foot, and to file such plat and estimate in the office of the City Recorder; that after the fil- ing of said plat and estimate in his office, the City Recorder shall pub- lish in three consecutive issues of a newspaper published in this city, a notice stating that such plat and es- timates are on file, the location and nature of the improvement, kind of material to be used, and an estimate of its cost, and the time before which objections thereto can be filed, and the time fixed for hearing, which time shall not be less than five days after the last publication of such notice, and after such publication shall have been made, the City Recorder shall, at the next regular session of the City Council, notify the Council thereof in writing, wth a printed copy of such notice accompanying the same. Alderman McLaughlin offered the following': Be It Resolved by the City Coun- cil of the City of Dubuque, That it is deemed necessary and advisable to. improve Fenelon Place from the easterly line of Raymond Place to the easterly of Burch Street, and it is hereby proposed to grade to sub - grade, curb and pave said street with asphalt on a concrete foundation, making curb line twenty -six feet apart, and to assess the cost of said grading, curbing, paving and foun- dation against the abutting property. Wallis that the City Attorney deal with the owner, Mrs. Anna Hill, of lot 29, in O'Hare's sub- division of the south part of mineral lot No. 161 in the City of Dubuque, and obtain from her a deed for a suf- ficient strip of land on the north side of the lot along Bennett Street to allow for the construction of a side- walk similar to those adjacent; that as soon as the proper deed is made out and recorded the city proceed at its own expense to lay a cement sidewalk on the ground acquired. Rogers et al asking to have the pond of water situated on lots 210 and 211 filled in, was on motion of Mr. Kolck referred to the Sanitary Officer and for him to report back to the Council. Petition and certificate of Miss Block asking the Board of Health to recommend her admission to the State Hospital of Tuberculosis, was on motion of Ald. McLaughlin grant- ed. Mr. Kolck moved that the Board of Health hire M. Dehing to clean al- leys under orders of the Chairman. Carried. Mr. Kolck moved that the clerk be instructed to advertise the "Order is- sued by the Board of Health" on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays for three consecutive weeks, and have 2,500 posters printed for distribution. Carried. Mr. Kolck moved that the Sanitary Officers he instructed to purchase an 'electric lamp, 'Ald. McLaughlin moved to adjourn to July 2, 1912. City Engineer presented the follow- ing profiles showing the grades: Couler Avenue, 25th to 27th street. Couler Avenue, 30th to 32nd street. Julien Avenue, Bluff to a point 167 feet west. West Seventh Street. Prospect street to Needham Place. Lincoln Avenue. Seventh Avenue to Ninth Avenue. On motion of Ald, Frith .the pro- files were adopted and referred to the Ordinance committee. On motion of Ald. Frith the mar - ketmaster was instructed to have the water pipe in matron's quarters re- paired. Ald. Saul offered the following: Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Dubuque, that the - resolutions heretofore adopted provid- ing for the improvement of Nevada Street from Langworthy Avenue to Dodge Street be and they are hereby rescinded. Saul offered the following: Be it Resolved by the City Council of the City of Dubuque, That it is deemed necessary and advisable to improve Nevada Street from Lang - worthy Avenue to Dodge Street., and it is hereby proposed to grade, curb and gutter with combination concrete curb and gutter, and macadamize said portion of said street, and to as- sess the cost of said grading, curb- ing, guttering and macadamizing against the abutting property. Saul offered the following: Be It Resolved by the City Council of the City of Dubuque, That it is deemed necessary and advisable to improve Third Street from the east lot line of Iowa Street to the westerly end of the present brick paving op- posite the Chicago Burlington & Quincy freight depot, and it is hereby proposed to grade to sub- grade, curb or reset curb where necessary, and brick -pave said portion of said''street on a concrete foundation, and to as- sess the cost of said grading, curbing or resetting curb, brick paving and concrete foundation against the abut- ting property.
