The City has had a long standing partnership with Four Mounds Foundation. This work
session allows Four Mounds Foundation to share information on their past, current, and
future work and initiatives many of which relate to the City Council's equity goals.
The City owns Four Mounds Park and entered into a lease agreement with Four
Mounds Foundation in 1988 with a term of 49 years. In the agreement Four Mounds
Foundation is responsible for all ground maintenance and improvements to the grounds
in addition to all buildings maintenance and improvements. Any proposed material
improvements or modifications are submitted to the City for approval.
This has been a very fruitful and successful partnership for both the City and Four
Mounds Foundation. Their planning and care for this historic property has led to many
restorations and improvement projects that are funded by the Foundation. Four
Mounds Park is available to all residents as visitors to enjoy.

HEART PARTNERSHIP

Second Quarter Program Update 2024

HEART Partnership
restoring place. restoring people
Greetings from Four Mounds!
We open this report with a "HEARTfelt" thank you to our partners and friends.
None of the high -impact work we share each quarter would be possible
without you. Thank you!
Spring is beautiful at Four Mounds and being outside is rejuvenating for
students and staff alike. There is much work taking place on -site, from large
tree removal to the construction of a solar kiln! Additionally, we are working on
two gut rehabilitation projects in the North End and 1-3 home modification
jobs taking place in the homes of local seniors each week. These modification
projects make homes accessible for local seniors to age safely in place.
Please note that we have changed our reporting format to include more
demographic information. Every quarter we will report on the number of
students served, the age range of those students, and skills learned at specific
sites. Each report will feature 2-3 students, providing insight into the individual
goal work they are doing as part of their work week.
Finally, each report will provide up-to-date demographics, updates on events,
exciting news, and any extraordinary achievements. Please reach out if you
have questions and thanks again for your support!

underway. 514 Angella is a gut rehabilitation
project and students are working on drywall
finishing, spray plaster, and painting. Students
are also constructing a solar kiln at Four Mounds.

Laura
Isaac
Laura started on our Transitional
Employment Pathway this spring. She also
occasionally joins our Home Modifications
Crew out on the job site. Laura came to Four
Mounds because she wanted help deciding
on a career path and building her skills and
confidence. Laura is learning how to
advocate for herself during her goal work
sessions with our program social worker and
is excited about what her future holds.
Isaac recently moved to Dubuque and
learned about Four Mounds from a
roommate. Isaac is on our construction
pathway in partnership with Northeast Iowa
Community College and on our Transitional
Employment pathway. Isaac also enrolled in
the High School Equivalency program to
earn his high school diploma! Isaac is
working on building a positive network,
advocating for himself and being assertive.
A A
When Franklin was in high school he was in the HEART
Building Futures Program. After he graduated, he was
unsure of what he wanted to do next. Franklin enrolled into
our adult program and more specifically, the Transitional
Employment Pathway (TEP). While on the TEP, he built a
diverse skillset to build his resume while also mapping out
his future. Franklin worked on developing a growth
mindset, positive self -talk, and career planning. We are
thrilled to share that Franklin was recently hired as a cook,
which was his "dream job."In his new position, he will make
a living wage, has health insurance, a 401K and more!
