The Dubuque Fire Department recently took delivery of a new apparatus: a 2024 Pierce
ladder truck. This vehicle is capable of pumping 2,000 gallons of water per minute and
features a mid -mount 100-foot aerial ladder. The new truck replaces a 1995 reserve
ladder and moves a 2001 ladder truck into reserve status. It will be staffed with
firefighter paramedics at fire headquarters as a front-line advanced life support
response vehicle.
DISCUSSION:
The department received budget approval in FY 2022 and began the specification
process in the 4th quarter of 2021. A letter of intent was signed in May of 2022 and the
department took delivery in August of 2024. Department members will receive
manufacturer specific training mid -August, and the vehicle will be placed in service
immediately after the training is completed and documented.
The Dubuque Fire Department appreciates the efforts of our finance department,
vehicle services, and the department members who played a crucial role in the
specification, coordination, and commissioning of this new resource. Committee
members included Cal Motsch, Nick Esch, Greg Harris, Jacob Reiff, Ryan Neuhaus,
and Jason Lueken.
RECOMMENDATION:
The department is seeking approval to provide a static display of this new resource
before the Tuesday, September 3 council meeting starting at 5:45 PM in front of the
Historic Federal Building on 6th street. This will allow members of the community, city,
and council to tour the new vehicle and ask questions.
