Commissioners Present: Nicholas HALDER (chair); Shirley DAVIS-ORWOLL; Tom
ROBBINS; Doug DONALD;
Commissioners Absent: FRANCO MENCHACA
Staff Present: Bonnie SPURLING (Arts & Cultural Affairs Manager); Mike WILLIAMS (Intern)
Public Present: None
HALDER called the meeting to order following staff assurance of Iowa Open Meeting
compliance at 3:34 PM.
Roll Call & Review of Minutes
Roll call was skipped due to only commissioners and City staff present.
ROBBINS moved to approve minutes from June 25, 2024, with corrections provided by
HALDER and RIEDEL, seconded by DONALD. Vote: Unanimously affirmed. Motion carries.
The entire commission agrees HALDER does a great job in his role as Chair, DONALD
motions, RIEDEL seconds. No further discussion. Unanimously affirmed. Motion carries.
HALDER nominates DONALD for role of Vice Chair, ROBBINS seconds.
No further discussion. Unanimously affirmed. Motion carries.
DONALD nominates RIEDEL for role of Recorder, DAVIS-ORWOLL seconds.
No further discussion. Unanimously affirmed. Motion carries.

Status Reports from Staff
SPURLING reports for Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs:
New Art on the River sculptures will be installing the last week of July up until the day of the
opening reception. The reception will include dancing activities, spoken word performances, a
live saxophone player and a local DJ set.
SPURLING was able to get brochures for this years exhibit translated to both Spanish and
Marshallese.
SPURLING also reports that both the Special Projects and Operating Support grants have
been approved and final reports will be due from organizations by end of August.
RIEDEL commends SPURLING for her diligent work.
Updates From Master Plan Working Groups
None
Old Business — Commission Strategic Plan Goals — Reporting and Discussion
No new updates. Chair and new Vice Chair will meet to discuss the Commission's Strategic
Plan, Objective A.

RIEDEL reports new play with Bell Tower Theatre "Is there life after 50?" will start on August
9th
