DISCUSSION This project provides for the installation of approximately 300 feet of 8-inch diameter sewer along Broadway Street, from Putnam Street to W. 28th Street. On multiple occasions, the existing sewer system has surcharged so that wastewater has back flowed into basements. The sewer is proposed to be redirected so that flows are conveyed with a greater capacity to mitigate the recurring backups. During design, staff identified several deficiencies with the roadway, sidewalk, curb and gutter, which will also be addressed within the project limits. PROJECT SCHEDULE The proposed schedule for the project is as follows: Initiate Public Bidding Process & Notice of Public Hearing October 21, 2024 Publish Notice to Bidders, Advertise for Bids October 23, 2024 Public Hearing on Plans & Specifications November 4, 2024 Receipt of Bid Proposals (Bid -Letting) November 7, 2024 Award Construction Contract November 18, 2024 Substantial Completion June 30, 2025 Final Project Completion Date August 1, 2025 RECOMMENDATION I recommend preliminary approval of the proposed plans, specifications, form of contract and construction estimate for the Broadway Sanitary Sewer Improvements Project. I further recommend establishing the date of the public hearing and authorizing the Engineering Department to advertise for bids for the project.
