Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting December 19, 2024
Present: Victor Lieberman, President; Alanda Gregory, Vice President; and Trustees,
Greg Gorton, Diann Guns, Christy Monk, and Pam Mullin
• The Board approved library expenditures.
• The Board approved a Noon opening for May 8, 2025 to allow library staff to
attend the City of Dubuque Employee Appreciation Breakfast
• The Board did not meet in November of 2024, so this is a two -month update.
• The Library hosted Annie's Foundation on November 9. Anne's Foundation is a
Des Moines nonprofit that provides free books to the public. Their main focus is
on books that have been banned from Iowa's public schools. Over 200 Dubuque
community members attended to learn more about the legal efforts regarding the
recent legislation removing titles from school libraries and over 170 books were
distributed to attendees.
• The Dubuque Senior High School Madrigal Singers performed for the Library's
annual tree lighting ceremony on December 7. Over 100 attendees enjoyed the
performance and cheered on one young resident that was selected to be the
official tree lighter.
• The Library organized several popular community events including The Dubuque
History Expo (Oct. 20), Paws for Good w/Dubuque Human Society (Oct. 26),
Quilts of Valor Ceremony (Nov. 3), Family Literacy Month (all of November),
and so much more!
• The Library is sad to say good by to both Michelle Oberhoffer, Circulation
Services Manager (17 years) and Deb Stephenson, Relations Supervisor (36
years) who both retired on December 27. Congrats on your retirement!
