INTRODUCTION
The attached resolution provides for the acceptance of the public improvement
construction contract for the Bee Branch Creek Trail Project — Phase 1 Project, Iowa DOT
Project No. TAP-2100(697)-81-31.
BACKGROUND
This project included construction of a 10-foot-wide multi -use trail that connects from 12th
street on the south, goes around the Alliant solar field on the east side and connects with
Sycamore Street via passing under the 151/61 overpass. Engineering staff worked with
Fehr Graham out of their Manchester, IA office to design the project. The consultant and
staff worked diligently with the Iowa DOT, EPA, US Army Corps of Engineers and Iowa
DNR to design a project that would not encroach on the AY McDonald site with known
environmental contamination.
The project included the construction of a PCC Concrete trail from 12th Street, around the
Alliant Solar Field on 12th Street over to Sycamore Street. The project included the
following:
- 1587 LF of PCC Concrete Trail
- 878 SY of Reinforced 6" PCC Sidewalk
- 231 LF of Ornamental Metal Railing
- 3255 CY of Embankment
- 750 SF of Segmental Retaining Wall
Additionally, lighting conduit and trail light bases were installed to accommodate the future
lighting of the trail. Installing this infrastructure now during the trail construction will
minimized costs for a future lighting the trail.
