WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for telling a more complete story of our community,
fostering local pride, revitalizing neighborhoods, managing growth, creating sustainable
communities, and enhancing livability; and
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by
dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has
shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS, the City honors preservation efforts annually through the Historic Preservation
Commission's Ken Kringle Awards, in partnership with the Dubuque County Historic
Preservation Commission and Dubuque Main Street, taking place tomorrow, May 61h at
St. Raphael's Cathedral at 6 pm; and
WHEREAS, Preservation Month, celebrating the theme The Power of Place, and sponsored by the
City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission, is an opportunity for the community
to celebrate the people preserving our history that is significant to our community's past
and future.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND RESIDENTS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF MAY 2025 AS
"PRESERVATION MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, CALLING UPON DUBUQUERS TO JOIN OTHERS ACROSS THE
UNITED STATES IN RECOGNIZING AND PARTICIPATING IN THIS SPECIAL OBSERVANCE.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 5th day of May, 2025.
