Mohr Architectural Historian and Certified Local Government Coordinator State Historical Society of Iowa 600 E. Locust St. Des Moines, IA 50319 Request: To Designate. Eagle Point Park as a City Landmark Site. Dear Ms. Mohr: Office of the Mayor City Hall 50 West 13th Street Dubuque} IA 52001-4845 www.cityofdubuque.orq The City of Dubuque is requesting designation of Eagle Point Park as a City Landmark Site in accordance with the City's Historic Presentation regulations, Located at 2601 Shiras Avenue, the park is owned by the City of Dubuque. The nomination and related materials are attached for your review. A City Landmark is defined as: A property or structure designated by ordinance of the City Council pursuant to procedures described herein, that is worthy of preservation, rehabilitation or restoration because of its prehistoric, historic, architectural, archeological or cultural significance to the city, the state or nation. There currently are ten City designated landmarks. The. City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission unanimously has recommended the designation of Eagle Point Park as a City Landmark Site The designation would apply to the parkland listed in the National Register of Historic Places as an Historic District on November 27, 2017. Since Eagle Point Park is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, it meets the City's criteria for designation as a City Landmark Site because of the size and number of structures, and tack of non-contiguous ownership of multiple structures as found in a historic district. The other Landmark Site is Four Mounds Park, also a City -owned National Register historic district. On behalf of the Dubuque City Council, I respectfully request the support of the State Historic Preservation Office for designation of Eagle Point park as a City Landmark Site. Thank you.
