Proof City Council Proceedings 8.18.25 Page 88 of 1171 ✓� AC FIVE FLAGS Five Flags Civic Center Advisory Commission Meeting June 2, 2025 COMMISSIONERS Bryce Parks, McKenzie Blau, Alan Schumacher, Colleen Myers PRESENT: COMMISSIONERS Sara Tandy ABSENT: STAFF PRESENT: Aaron Rainey, Jesse Cosens, Greg Olson OTHERS PRESENT: Parks and Recreation Lead Administrative Assistant Angie Metcalf, Parks and Recreation Director Marie Ware CALL TO ORDER: Vice Chair Blau called the meeting to order at 3:32PM. MINUTES APPROVED: Blau recommended the meeting minutes from the December 2, 2024 meeting be reviewed and approved at the next commission meeting in September 2025. INTRODUCTION OF Alan Schumacher and Colleen Myers introduced themselves as new NEW COMMISSION commission members. MEMBERS: ELECTION OF After a short discussion between commissioners, all parties were comfortable OFFICERS; VOTE: with the current officers keeping their current positions because have three newly appointed members. Commissioner Blau motioned, Commissioner Parks to Chair of the Commission. Parks seconded to nominate. Motion passed unanimously. Commissioner Parks motioned, Vote Commissioner Blau to Vice Chair of Commission. Blau seconded to nominate. Motion passed unanimously. UPDATE FROM Rainey shared that the new management company, Oak View Group (OVG), GENERAL MANAGER will officially transition management starting July 1, 2025. He also advised that AARON RAINEY ON the FY2026 bookings are looking strong and off to a great start with new BOOKINGS AND bookings and renewals. There are a handful of shows remaining in FY25, which EVENTS: are expected to do well. Iowa Power Arena Football is set to start August 16, 2025 and the league championship game is scheduled for December 20, 2025. The installation of the promenade advertisement TVs will be installed prior to June 30, 2025. UPDATE FROM The north wall water access is repaired and no longer leaking. All safety and DIRECTOR OF rigging inspection items that were able to be completed in-house, have been OPERATIONS AND completed. Bleacher inspection is complete. The external paint and pretty EVENTS JESSE campaigns are back in full swing for the season. Painting and redecorating of COSENS: the arena dressing rooms (greenrooms) are moving along. Work on the HVAC system repairs upcoming. Page 1 of 2 Page 117 of 1171 UPDATE FROM Olson shared the quarterly financial report with commission members, advising DIRECTOR OF of a forecasted for FY25 of $308,240 over benchmark. FINANCE GREG OLSON: MANAGEMENT Rainey and Ware shared an overview of the transition to date and what is COMPANY upcoming. Ware shared activities to expect in the transition based upon the TRANSITION: recent Grand River Center Transition. PREPARE AND Ware introduced the goal sheets to be provided for review by City Council RECOMMEND GOAL during their goal setting sessions in August 2025. Page one listed the success SETTING of FY 2025 identified by the Commission and their impacts. Page two listed the WORKSHEET FOR goals and focus issues for FY2026 identified by the Commission. Commission CITY COUNCIL members listed their successes and discussed the goals. Commissioner Parks motioned and Commissioner Blau seconded, to approve the Goal Setting sheet. Motion passed unanimously. ADJOURNMENT: It was moved by Parks, seconded by Blau, to adjourn the meeting 4:26 p.m. Unanimous. Under "Impacts", please explain what the benefits to the city and to a resident were as a result of each achievement. Success: Incorporated self-service kiosks for concession stands. Continued the initiative to promote 'grab and go' stations during events. Impacts: Increased patron satisfaction, faster customer service, and enhanced efficiency for staff. Success: Bookings are strong for the fall of 2025. Impacts: More entertainment opportunities for the residents and visitors as well as a diverse offering of events. Success: Improvements made to the artist's greenroom. Impacts: Provide a more inviting and relaxing space for artists to unwind before and after their performances, while reinforcing the city's reputation as a hospitable and artist -friendly destination. Success: Installation of promenade located throughout the building for adverting/sponsorship on television screens. RFP released for architectural and engineering services for the $23.4 million renovation development plan creating a venue for the future and improves the customer experience. 2. Continue to complete capital improvements to Five Flags to have a facility maintained and managed well for the attendees of events and activities. 3. Reachieve meeting benchmark in FY26.
