the Dubuque Butchers Association asking for a fire plug near their new slaughter house they to supply the water from an artisan well was referrred to the committee on fire with power Regular Session of Lake Street to Couler Avenue was referred to the special committee on Lake Street The petition of J Ditman et al opposing the laying of a sidewalk on Elm Street was referred to the com on streets The petition of Wm Springborn asking for the opening of an alley was referred to the com on streets and Eng the petition Patrick Morriarty et al asking for employment it was moved that the street commissioner be instructed to employ as many residents of the city as he could conveniently work at present to advantage The petition of jacob Zangmeister for privelege to sink a well under the sidewalk adjoining his premises was referred to the mayor with power the petition of John Heim asking the city to buy some macadam from him was referred to the street committee reports of Officers Treasurer Traut reported having paid out on account of interest refunded tax Fire Department and right of way 1219.88 for which warrants in his favor were ordered drawn Recorder Halpin reported having issued six licenses amounting to $189.50 during the month the report was received and filed Street commissioner Norton reported having expended 292.40 in repairs of streets during the month ordered paid Auditor Reilly reported the regular payroll of city officers and members of the fire department ordered paid Marshal zugenbuehler reported the regular monthly payroll of the police force which was ordered paid Woodmeasurer Warring reported having measured 1598 cords of wood for which he received 79.80 report was received and filed market Master Rice reported having furnished 98 meals to McCarthy the same reported in favor of drawing the following warrants on the treasurer for tax overpaid May M Wetmore Nicholas Martin J H Lull Wm Joergens Julia Lewis J W Schmitt adopted The same reported adversely to the petitions of the following Stephen Streibel Carolin Boxleiter John Nagel adopted the petition of P F Guthrie and Ferd Dunnebecke assessors asking or 300.00 each on account was granted the bill of Wm Rebman for 225.00 for extra work done on main Street was on motion received and filed An ordinance granting the Dubuque Butchers Association the right to lay a railway track was read for the second time and adopted by the unanimous vote of the members present Ald Crawford chairman on ordinances read a report of the committee on rules for the government of the fire department which was referred back to committee Ald Clancy offered the following resolution Be it resolved that the lamplighters salary be increased ten dollars per month from March 1st 1885 Five dollas of the amount to be paid by the gas company and five dollars by the city adopted Ald Hollnagel offered the following resolution Be it resolved that the assessment of personality of James Cushing be reduced to 4200 for the year 1884 adopted Ald Kane offered the following resolution Resolved that the cost of the official printing for 1886 shall not exceed 1000 and that the subject matter of awarding said printing be referred to the committee on ordinances to report an ordinance in relation there to adopted ald Martin from the com on markets reported in favor of establishing a market on 16th and clay adopted Regular Session March 2nd 1885 Mayor ODonnell in the chair Present Ald Byrne Clancy Crawford Deckert Hollnagel Kane Martin Olinger and Page Absent Ald McCarthy Bills referred Walker and rombert Chas Givson B Chatfield Omnibus Company After some discussion in relation to the discount allowed to the abutters for main street improvement the subject was laid on the atable Ald Olinger moved that when the council adjourn it will be until Monday March 16th at 7:30 p.m. adjuorned attest J W Halpin City Recorder Adjourned Session March 16th 1885 Mayor Pro-tem Olinger in the chair Present Ald Byrne Clancy Crawford Deckert Hollnagel Kane Martin and Page Absent Ald McCarthy, Mayor ODonnell the chair stated the object of the meeting to be to hear the annual reports of city officers and the appointment of judges and clerks for the spring election On motion of Ald Crawford the claim of Wm Rebman was aken from the file and referred to the committee on streets and the engineer for investigation The council then appointed the following judges and clerks as follows First WArd Judges Joseph Straney and T J Hipmann Clerks N C Ryan and Ed Reynoldson Polling Place Pfiffner and August Baumgartner Polling Place Iowa Brewery Ald Kane Chairman on finance then read the report of the Finance Committee for the year ending Feby 28th 1885 showing the financial condition of the city the report was adopted and then referred back to the finance committee for publication in pamphlet form The annual reports of the city officers and street committee were then read adopted and referred to the same committee for publication Adjourned Session March 16th 1885 Mayor Pro-tem Olinger in the chair Present Ald Byrne Clancy Crawford Deckert Hollnagel Kane Martin and Page Absent Ald McCarthy, Mayor ODonnell Ald Hollnagel chairman on delinquent tax reported on the petition of Martin Scheidecker that his assessment of moneys and credits for 1884 be reduced to 500.00 adopted The bill of Henry Reed amounting to 16.64 for lumber used in the construction of a bridge on the ice was ordered paid The recorder was instructed to draw up the usual election proclamation to be signed by the mayor to have the same published in the official paper of the city ten days prior to election Ald Kane offered an ordinance providing for the cleaning of privy vaults and water closets etc which he read for the first time On motion the rules were suspended and the ordinance read for the second tme by its title and adopted by the unanimous vote of the members present Adjourned attest J W
