Proclamation Page 16 of 1214 THE N v or UB E Alasterpiece or the Mississippi WHEREAS, Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10 to commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948; and WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque is committed to fostering an environment where all individuals — regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, religion, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity —are treated with respect and have equitable access to housing, employment, education, and public life; and WHEREAS, in a year when state -level protections for certain groups have been narrowed, it is more important than ever for local communities to reaffirm their commitment to protecting and advancing human rights for all people; and WHEREAS, Human Rights Day provides an opportunity to reflect on progress made, acknowledge the work still ahead, and celebrate the residents, organizations, and public servants who work each day to uphold human rights and civil rights in the City of Dubuque. NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND RESIDENTS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE 10T" DAY OF DECEMBER, 2025 AS "HUMAN RIGHTS DAY" IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND ENCOURAGE ALL RESIDENTS TO JOIN IN RECOGNIZING THIS DAY BY RENEWING OUR COMMITMENT TO SHARED HUMANITY, BELONGING, AND THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS FOR ALL.
