WHEREAS, the residents of Dubuque, lowa, are steadfast in their commitment to honoring the service
and sacrifice of local veterans and service members; and
WHEREAS, "Women Veterans Recognition Day," observed on June 12th, commemorates the
anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, which granted
women the right to serve as permanent and regular members of the United States Armed
Forces; and
WHEREAS, prior to 1948, women played essential roles in every American conflict, often serving
without formal recognition or the benefits afforded to their male counterparts; and
WHEREAS, nearly 3 million women have served in every branch of the United States Armed Forces,
whose contributions have been—and continue to be—vital to the strength and
effectiveness of every branch of the U.S. military; and
WHEREAS, the Tri-State Women Warriors recognizes the sacrifices and strengths of women veterans
and current service members and continue to uplift, support, and advocate for the unique
needs of women veterans; and
WHEREAS, it is our duty to recognize and honor the sacrifices, leadership, and resilience of women
veterans, ensuring their service is acknowledged and valued within our communities.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND RESIDENTS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE TWELTH OF JUNE 2026 AS
"WOMEN VETERANS RECOGNITION DAY"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO HONOR THE SERVICE,
SACRIFICE, AND ENDURING CONTRIBUTIONS OF WOMEN IN THE U.S. MILITARY-PAST AND
PRESENT.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to
be affixed this 1 St day of June 2026.
