WHEREAS, Sister Cities International traces its roots to 1956 when President Dwight
D. Eisenhower proposed a people-to-people citizen diplomacy initiative
that creates global cooperation at the local level while promoting
sustainable development, youth involvement, cultural understanding, and
humanitarian assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Sister Cities International network represents more than 2,500
communities in 137 countries around the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque established an official Sister City relationship with
Dornbirn, Austria in October of 2012; and
WHEREAS, many of Dubuque's earliest residents emigrated from Dornbirn, Austria; in
the 1880's establishing their homes and businesses in Dubuque; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dornbirn, Austria will celebrate the 125t" anniversary of its
incorporation from June 19-21, 2026 featuring city walks, history
exhibitions, and public festivals.
NOW THEREFORE, I, BRAD M. CAVANAGH, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE,
IOWA, ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND THE CITIZENS OF
DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM JUNE 19-21, 20026 AS
"DORNBIRN 125T" ANNIVERSARY DAYS"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND CONGRATULATE THE CITY OF
DORNBIRN ON ITS ANNIVERSARY AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE HISTORY OF
THE CITY OF DUBUQUE.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
Great Seal of the City of Dubuque to be
