Dear Members of the Selection Committee:
I am pleased to submit this letter in support of the City of Dubuque's application for the Love
Your Block 2026-2028 grant. As Mayor, I am fully committed to this initiative and pledge the
sustained engagement, public visibility, and cross-departmental coordination it requires.
Strengthening Dubuque's neighborhoods is a city council goal and priority, and Love Your
Block aligns directly with that commitment.
The neighborhoods with the highest concentrations of poverty in Dubuque face compounding
challenges and have welcomed the opportunity to participate in community-driven civic
infrastructure needed to sustain lasting change. Love Your Block addresses what capital
investment cannot: resident ownership, neighborhood capacity, and collaborative efforts
between residents and local government that produces durable outcomes.
What distinguishes Dubuque's application is our readiness. The Office of Community Impact
and Neighborhood Support has administered neighborhood mini grants for years and
maintains deep relationships with neighborhood associations and other community groups
across the city. Our Community Impact and Neighborhood Support Department brings the
community engagement and volunteer infrastructure expertise this program demands.
I will serve as a public champion of this program throughout its full two-year term, highlighting
the program's impact in public communications, and visiting project sites to acknowledge the
volunteers and residents doing this work. My mayoral tenure extends through December
2029, well beyond the program's completion. I am committed to the success of this initiative
and respectfully urge the Selection Committee to select the City of Dubuque as a Love Your
Block 2026-2028 grantee city.
