Civic duty, keen interest in community and neighborhood
development
Describe your experiences
(professional, personal, or
volunteer), skills, and /or
education that have
prepared you for service on
this Board or Commission?
I have experience in community development as a community
resident as well as a pastor in community churches. My first
ordained call was to a small Presbyterian church in the near
NW side of Cedar Rapids a church which addressed its mission
by fostering the Olivet Neighborhood Mission, then a major
contributor in the social concerns and needs of the entire city. I
built upon my prior work and experiences as a social worker,
correctional services pretrial probation worker among other
such. In ministry I continued in this direction even if I found
myself in a small town pulpit. Ending full-time ministry in
Waterloo we retired in 2015, moving back to Dubuque just a
block from where we lived just south of UDTS.
I also am interested in developing a neighborhood association
in my own neighborhood.

Why are you interested in
applying for this Board or

I am applying for the transit board because reliable public
transportation is the lifeline of our community's economic and
social health. I was a rider, and I sow how route efficiency and
scheduling impact local workers, students, and seniors. I want
to be able to participate in a system that grows safely and
accessibly for every neighborhood.
Describe your experiences

My degree in economy gave me the foundation and hands-on
experience in budgeting, strategic planning and community
engagement. Outside of work, I volunteer in many
organizations around the city. Together, these professional,
volunteer, and educational experiences have prepared me to
listen well, review data objectively, and serve effective in the
Transit Advisory Board

continue to contribute and learn.

Why are you interested in

I moved to Dubuque in March 2024, and believe that it is my
responsibility to contribute to the community. There are many
ways in Dubuque to connect and when I saw that there were
openings on the TAB, I thought my background and experience
might be of use. I am a staunch believer in public transit.
Describe your experiences

prepared you for service on

Since 2005, I have worked with public transit agencies and
community-based non-profit organizations on programs that
provide transportation for seniors and persons with disabilities.
My experience includes managing ADA paratransit eligibility
offices in Honolulu, Boston and Portland, OR, as well as
training staff in Everett, WA, Modesto, CA, Chicago, Atlanta,
and other locations. I have helped develop travel training and
volunteer driver programs, creating systems, training materials,
reports.

working in diverse
environments:
Working with agencies in small towns to large cities, I have had
the opportunity to hire, train and work with people with different
backgrounds, experiences, cultures, and physical abilities.
Building a cohesive, inclusive team has been a priority for me.
Equally important is serving diverse clients whose needs for
assistance are different.
