Regular Meeting
Commissioners Present: Addison ARONSON; Gail CHAVENELLE; Doug DONALD; Nick

Commissioners Absent: David BARBA; Shirley DAVIS-ORWOLL
Staff Present: Bonnie SPURLING (Arts & Cultural Affairs Manager)
Public Present:
1. Call to Order / Assurance of Iowa Open Meeting Compliance
HALDER called the meeting to order following staff assurance of Iowa Open
Meeting compliance at 3:41 PM.
2. Roll Call
Roll call was skipped due to no one from the public being present.
3. Review and Approve Minutes from March 24, 2026.
ARONSON motions to accept minutes, CHAVENELLE seconds. No further
discussion. Vote unanimously passed.
4. Status Reports from Staff for Review and Acceptance
SPURLING reported that the application period for both the Operational
Support and Capacity Building grants programs have recently closed. She is
currently in the process of verifying eligibility. Once that is completed, eligible
applications will be passed along to the reviewers to begin their work.
Art on the River — All of the selected sculptures are available — contracts are
signed. The opening reception will take place on the Riverwalk Friday, August
7, from 5-7pm.
The Creatives Cafe planning committee met to discuss the future of this
programming and who would oversee it into the future. It was decided that the
planning committee would continue to oversee the program without City funding
going forward. The Commissioners and City Staff will discuss alternative
programming opportunities that will complement the Creatives Cafes and align
with current Commission priorities.
5. Updates from Master Plan Working Groups
Nothing new to report currently.
6. Old Business
Commission Goals
Commissioners continued their discussion on goal setting in preparation of
completing the annual worksheets to be submitted to City Council. SPURLING
and HALDER will meet in the coming weeks to prepare the worksheets for the
Commissioners to review and accept at the May meeting.

Nothing new to report currently.
