Regular Meeting

Commissioners Absent: Shirley DAVIS-ORWOLL;
Staff Present: Bonnie SPURLING (Arts & Cultural Affairs Manager)

1. Call to Order / Assurance of Iowa Open Meeting Compliance
HALDER called the meeting to order following staff assurance of Iowa Open
Meeting compliance at 3:33 PM.
2. Roll Call
Roll call took place because there was Public present.
3. Review and Approve Minutes from February 24, 2026.
BARBA motions to accept minutes, ARONSON seconds. No further discussion.
Vote 4 in favor (ARONSON; BARBA; CHAVENELLE; HALDER), 1 abstain
(DONALD)
4. Status Reports from Staff for Review and Acceptance
SPURLING reported that she is currently fielding questions for FY'27 Operating
Support Grant program, which closes Friday, April, 17. Capacity Building Grant
applications are due the following week on Friday, April 24. Reviewers for both
programs have been identified and gone through training.
Art on the River — All of the selected sculptures are available — contracts are
signed. The opening reception will take place August 7 from 5-7pm.
The Creatives Cafe planning committee met to discuss the format for upcoming
events, as well as the schedule. Discussion between the Commissioners and
Staff took place about the future of the Creatives Cafe and the City's continued
involvement.
5. Updates from Master Plan Working Groups
Nothing new to report currently.
6. Old Business
Commission Goals
Discussion continued amongst the Commissioners about goal setting for the
upcoming year. Further discussion will take place at future meetings ahead of
finalizing the goals at the June meeting.

8. Events and Engagement Reporting from Commissioners
Commissioners shared the following events that they are connected to:
