Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting May 28, 2026
Present: A. Alanda Gregory, President; Diann Guns, Secretary; and Trustees, Jessica
Connery, Victor Lieberman, and Pam Mullin
• The Board approved library expenditures for April.
• The June/July Art @ your Library will feature the artwork of local artists Haley
Hammerand, Deb Horch, Janaan Roberts, and Jim Walsh.
• The library is expanding its Summer Reading Program using outreach
opportunities created by the Bright Beginnings Box program with local
preschools. Schools will receive free copies of books, with included lesson plans
related to the library's Summer Reading Program theme, "Plant a Seed, Read!".
Each child that completes a reading log will receive a free book to take home as
well.
• Thanks to a grant received from The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque,
the library will be adding Foundation of Reading kits, focused on reading skills
using the LETRS framework (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and
Spelling).
• The library was a recipient of a Duane Hagerty Historic Preservation Award due
to ongoing support and maintenance of the Encyclopedia Dubuque website. The
other recipient of the award was Randy Lyon, who has continued to update and
create new information on Encyclopedia Dubuque for nearly two decades.
• The Board of Trustees were given a quick tour of the work completed to date for
the renovations to the library's makerspace on second floor and circulation desk
on first floor.

Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting June 25, 2026
Present: A. Alanda Gregory, President; Andy Bland, Vice President, Diann Guns,
Secretary; and Trustees, Jessica Connery, Victor Lieberman, Christy Monk, and Pam
Mullin
• The Board approved library expenditures for May.
• The Board approved a three-year maintenance agreement with Total Maintenance,
Inc. to perform annual maintenance on the library's HVAC system.
• The Board of Trustees celebrated the service of Board President A. Alanda
Gregory's on the Board as she finished the final her of her term.
• The Board of Trustees celebrated Public Communications and Marketing
Coordinator Maggie Turza's graduation from the Dubuque Chamber of
Commerce's Leadership Dubuque program.
• The Board of Trustees expressed their gratitude to the City of Dubuque's Public
Information Office for their work in putting together a fantastic video sharing the
Dementia simulation programming the library has been offering with the
Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging.
• Renovations have begun at the library, with expectations to have all renovations
complete by the end of calendar year 2026. The Makerspace should be renovated
and reopened in September.
• Staff are prepared for the library's Summer Reading Program to have another
great year! Nearly 600 students registered on the first day.
