Dear Wayne.
Remodeling of City Hall
Dubuque, Iowa
We had an opportunity today
to check the size and spacing of
the joists supporting the third
floor of the City Hall.
Having worked on the conver-
sion of the third floor 8 years ago,
I was quite sure that we had a
good base on which to make im-
provements. The floor joists which
we inspected were between 2%"
and 3" wide and a full 12" deep.
They were spaced 16" on center
and were made of northern pine.
We estimate on this basis that
the joists will carry over 90
pounds per square foot.
The Building Code of Dubuque
requires that the floor of a busi-
ness bnilding should be designed
to carry 90 poúnds per square foot.
