Dubuque’s Smarter Electricity Pilot Project is a partnership • between the City of Dubuque, Alliant Energy-Interstate Power and Light (IPL) Company, and IBM Research. Alliant Energy has installed new AMI (advanced metering • infrastructure) electric meters at nearly 1,000 volunteer Dubuque households and is providing the electricity usage data from those households to the City and IBM for analysis. Intention of project The goal is to allow volunteer participants to • better monitor their electric energy consumption and enable them to make more- informed choices about when to use energy and how much they are using [increase awareness] Implementation Timeline and Activities Pilot study participants have had access to a • secure Energy Profile Builderbeginning in May of 2011. Allows participants to document the types of – appliances in their homes for a better view of how their electricity is being used. Gathers information that will be used by IBM to – help personalize the participants’ portal.
