Spence, Leisure Services Manager SUBJECT: Painting Sutton Pool Tank INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to provide a recommendation on awarding the contract for.the Painting Sutton Pool Tank Project. DISCUSSION Sealed bids were received on August 9, 2001, for the Painting Sutton Pool Tank Project, with only one bid received: Base Bid Alternate 1 Fred Jackson Tuckpointing Company $ 32,221 $ + 9,950 The FY 2002 C.I.P. contains $36,000 for this project so the base bid is within budget. Alternate 1 includes cleaning surface preparation and painting of the inside surfaces of the pool perimeter gutter trench, bulkhead surge tank, return structure, mechanical building wet well, and hair and lint strainer chamber. Alternate 1 is not recommended because of the cost, and with these areas not exposed to the sun, they do not need to be painted at this time. RECOMMENDATION I recommend that the contract be awarded to Fred Jackson Tuckpointing Company in the amount of $32,221. ACTION STEP The action requested is that the City Council adopt the attached resolutions approving the plans and specifications and awarding the contract to Fred Jackson Tuckpointing in the amount of $32,221. WHEREAS, notice of hearing on plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost was published as required by law. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CiTY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: That the said plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost are hereby approved as the plans, specifications, form of contract and estimated cost for said improvements for said project. Address: 2200 Bunker Hill Rd Phone: 589-4263 RESOLUTION NO. 369-01 AWARDING CONTRACT WHEREAS, sealed proposals have been submitted by contractors for the PAINTING SUTTON POOL TANK PROJECT pursuant to Resolution No. 336-01, and notice to bidders published in a newspaper published in the City of Dubuque, Iowa, on the 27th day of July, 2001. WHEREAS, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 9th day of August, 2001, and it has been determined that the bid of FRED JACKSON TUCKPOINTING COMPANY, in the amount of $32,221 was the lowest bid for the furnishings of all labor and materials and performing the work as provided for in the plans and specifications. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA: That the contract for the above improvement be awarded to FRED JACKSON TUCKPOINTING COMPANY, and the Manager be and is hereby directed to execute a contract on behalf of the City of Dubuque for the complete performance of the work. BElT FURTHER RESOLVED: That upon the signing of said contract and the approval of the contractor's bond, the City Treasurer is authorized and instructed to return the bid deposits of the unsuccessful bidders.
