Duggan and Members of the City Council DATE: August 29, 2001 RE: Claim by David Fisch Claimant Date of Claim Date of Loss Nature of Claim David Fisch 7/25/01 7/22/01 Property Damage This is a claim in which the claimant states that water backed up into his basement when a sewer line was blocked. According to the report of John Klostermann, Street/Sewer Maintenance Supervisor, his records indicate that the Operations and Maintenance Department was notified of a possible problem with the line on July 22, 2001. The line was found to have been clogged by grease and was subsequently cleaned. Mr. Klostermann states that there has not been a history of problems with this line. Therefore, it is his recommendation that the claim be denied based on lack of prior knowledge. The Legal Department concurs with this recommendation. Our records show that we were notified df a possible sewer problem at 5:30PM on July 22, 2001. When the crew arrived, they found that our main line was plugged. The possible cause of the ologgage was a build up of grease. The line was cleaned and service restored in a timely manner. · Our records show that We do not have a history of problems with this line. It is therefore my. recommendation to deny the claim due to the lack of prior knowledge. If you need any additional information concerning this claim, please contact me.
