TO: Michael C. Van Milliken, City Manager
FROM: Bob Green, Water Department Manager
SUBJECT: Final Acceptance of the Eagle Point Water Plant Chlorine Feed Room Expansion
Project
INFORMATION: This memorandum is for the final acceptance of the new Chlor'me Feed
Room Expansion Project at a final cost of $135,283.00.
DISCUSSION: On November 6, 2000 the City of Dubuque Water Department entered into an
agreement with Portzen Construction Inc. of Dubuque, Iowa for the construction of a 935 sq. ft.
room adjacent to the Eagle Poim Water Plant. This room is to house our chlorine and new
chlorine equipment controls for the injection of chlorine in our operations.
REQUESTED ACTION: Staff and I are requesting your approval and recommendation to the
City Council that they adopt the two resolutions, one approving the project and one approving
the final project cost of $135,283.00 and authorizing final payment to Portzen Construction, Inc.
of Dubuque, Iowa in the amount of $8,422.00 dollars in accordance with the State of Iowa
Statues. The final project cost is $19,634.00 over the contractors original bid proposal This was
due to the need of removing unforeseen buffed concrete and the additional support pilings due to
sandy soils under this room. The funds required to cover this overage will come from surplus
monies from other Capital Improvement Projects.
