Narrative Description: Architectural Style And Key Stylistic Elements: Vernacular two-story narrow gable front plan with shed roof porch, side hall (east), east side wing Physical Description: 24x14 core, 5x14 shed roof (metal) porch Alterations: New shed roof porch with metal roof, resided, windows replaced, new front door Building Permits: 1931-garage (Mrs. M. D. Sasser) 1977-enclose front porch Outbuildings: Double hip roof garage, 1955, 18x18, weatherboard, metal roof Landscaping Notes: Deeper setback, level lot, drive to east, fronts south. 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: It is tempting to attempt to link Dennis Dorgan to this house, it being the earliest surviving Dorgan Place residence. Dorgan was born in County Cork, Ireland in 1809 and came to the city October 1834. His wife died c.1882 and he died February 3, 1884 at the age of 75 years. The couple had five children. Dorgan platted Dorgan Place and was its namesake. Historical Notes: Dennis Dorgan makes improvements $300 (Herald, January 3, 1879). thth Directory then places him on west side of alley between Main, Locust, 16 and 17 Sewer Records: 1891 sewer record shows Mary Flynn as owner of lot 9, widow, 181 Southern Ave. City Directory Notes: th 1878-Dennis Dorgan, laborer, north side 16 one west of Locust th 1881-1883-same, near corner 16 & Main 1884-at foot of Seminary Hill thth 1886-same, stonecutter, res alley west of Main between 16 & 17 No 1890 listing found. 1894-Mrs. Morris Flynn, widow, north side Dorgan’s Alley, between Ellis and Madison, Morris J. painter, same.
